New Amsterdam Jazz works with artists around their upcoming releases. In collaboration with Dox Records en ZenneZ records, NAJ helps artists on how to promote an album, video or new release.

Ilia Rayskin

‘Unboxed’ is Ilia Rayskin’s debut album as a leader, with his group Introspections.

This album features a unique and modern band sound, utilizing adventurous harmonies, beats, synthesizers and vibraphone.

Bnnyhunna

‘Traffic’ centres around Bnnyhunna’s feelings towards growing up in Europe and its western mentality, which conflict with the connection he feels to his roots in Ghana - creating a mental block of ‘traffic’ that is difficult to overcome.

Blending hip-hop with contemporary jazz, the record takes the listener on a journey through Bnnyhunna’s subconscious mind as he strives to find a balance in his identity.

Reinier Baas

'#oneminuteradio' is the latest project of Amsterdam-based guitarist and composer Reinier Baas, and a vehicle for some of his most wildly varied output to date. His target audience: "people with above average character and a below average attention span".

This succession of individual, minute-long compositions highlights his singular, orchestral approach to the guitar, as well as his love for hip-hop beats, lo-fi samples, 20th-century harmony and African drum music. For all its variety in instrumentation, style and density, the music maintains a surprising sense of overall form.

Idema/Serierse

With their Idema/Serierse Quartet, jazz guitarist Gijs Idema and vocalist Anna Serierse explore innovative ways of combining guitar and voice. From a sound-based angle of approach, they thrive for a unique blend of the two instruments.

They are supported by a steady foundation consisting of Cas Jiskoot on the double bass and Tim Hennekes on drums. The quartet is described as a unity that paints in broad strokes with a strong sense for freedom, melody, rhythm and form. In 2023 the Idema/Serierse Quartet presents their second record, following their debut album Motus released in 2020.

Martí Mitjavila Trio

Rooted in the tradition but looking forward, this unusual chord-less clarinet trio wants to bring a new sound to old songs and explore new ideas with their original compositions. Their upcoming album “Around the Corner” features 2 well-established names from the Dutch Jazz scene, Gideon Tazelaar and Joris Roelofs, as guest artists.

The band has performed at North Sea Jazz 2022. They have also won the Grachtenfestival Jazz Competition in 2022, and Martí won "Best CvA soloist" at the Keep an Eye International Jazz Competition.

Davor Stehlik Quartet

Davor Stehlik Quartet is an Amsterdam-based band and they are releasing their debut album "Introducing". The music of Davor is strongly grounded in the tradition of jazz but it is also very much influenced by the sound of jazz from the last few decades.

The interest in exploration through improvisation and the pursuit of the most beautiful melodies of the moment are some of the most distinctive qualities of Davor’s playing.

Jessica Manuputty

“Toma terus” means “We’re going forward” in the Moluccan language. To Jessica it translates into being resilient, which is the foundation of her album and upcoming theater tour.

The album is rooted in the Moluccan tradition and features ‘laga-lagu’, traditional Mallucan songs that pay tribute to her grandparents. During the show, Jessica talks about her roots and sings the songs closest to her heart. The album is about homesickness, resilience, looking for your identity and connecting to your roots. Coming in March 2023.

Ambergris

"Ambergris's 2nd album is titled “Bellissimə”, Italian for “very beautiful”. There is a catch, however. “The last letter is a schwa, a gender-neutral vowel that is being introduced now in the Italian language to make it more inclusive. I chose this title as an ode to the fluid instead of the binary or boxed nature of things, to the beauty in between extremes, to what can't be easily labeled, to everything that has not been fully understood, yet”, explains Nicolò

“The album includes six very articulated tunes, a bunch of interludes, and other stuff. If there is something like a theme, a connection, or a common thread, it would be that I was heavily inspired by classical music, and by Italian disco music.”

Garden Crack

“Garden Crack” invites Michael Moore to their latest recording as a form of a dialogue between different generations of Amsterdam's jazz scene.

Through their collaboration, they explore the power of storytelling through songs, but also by making themselves available to be spontaneous in the moment. Their repertoire ranges from original compositions to arrangements of pieces by Bartok and folkloric music.
